De Kop van Zuid
Are you visiting LBP for a business meeting anytime soon? Take a tour around Rotterdam! There are lots of interesting places to visit. We’ll show you some of our favorites in the Rijnhaven area.
The Rijnhaven is an old harbor at the river Nieuwe Maas, which in recent years has become quite a popular spot, called ‘De Kop van Zuid’. There are many things to do, like visiting the Dutch museum of photography. More than a century ago ships left this harbor on a regular basis to transport passengers from Rotterdam to New York. Hotel New York is a remaining of illustrious past.
The Rotterdam skyline is famous! You might call De Kop van Zuid: skyscraper island. A few of the highest buildings in the Netherlands are situated on or around this area, including the Maastoren (164 meter), which is, for now, the highest.
HOTEL: NHOW ROTTERDAM
The nhow Rotterdam hotel treats guests to a beautiful view of the city and offers all luxury you wish for. You can even enjoy wifi and drinks on the roof terrace! Furthermore, you can easily walk to musea, the river, eating places and theaters around De Kop van Zuid.
MUSEUM: NEDERLANDS FOTOMUSEUM
This Dutch museum of photography (Nederlands Fotomuseum) has an impressive collection of 5,5 million images: historical images, experimental work, documentary pictures, it’s all there. The museum mounts around 10 exhibitions each year.
FOODIES: FENIX FOOD FACTORY
Cross the bridge and visit The Fenix Food Factory! This old warehouse houses some great local stalls. A (Dutch) cheese shop, a brewery, a coffee place, a bookstore… Stroll around, buy great food, find a nice place to sit down (inside or outside at the river shore) and enjoy!
ROAD TO: KOP VAN ZUID
"So how do I get there?”, we hear you ask. It’s easy! A subway (metro E or D, direction Slinge) leaves every 10 minutes from Rotterdam central station. Step out at the Wilhelminaplein stop and you will find yourself next to the Erasmusbrug.
